Feeling Anxious? Maybe What You Are Feeling Isn't Yours

Have you ever worked with someone that has an impact on you the moment they arrive at work? They don't say or do anything and yet immediately the energy of the space shifts. It is a reminder that we can have an energetic impact and we may be misinterpreting what we are feeling. So let me share a personal story with you about energy.

I worked  in restaurants for years and have always been sensitive to the energy of a room. A number of years ago,

I went with my oldest son on a class trip to Playland. I was assigned a group of six kids, which included my son. Prior to going off and having fun I set the intention with the kids. It was simple...two rules...stick together and have fun. The kids were awesome and we had an amazing time. I was in good spirits, I was not stressed and I was really enjoying the experience. It came time to go and have lunch and we were all standing in line at the White Spot restaurant. To my surprise I suddenly began to feel very anxious. What I couldn't understand was where this feeling was coming from as moments before I was in a great mood. It took me a couple minutes to realize that I was being affected by the energy of those around me. Behind me was about 50+ very hungry kids that couldn't wait to get to the front of the line and order their food.

“Energy doesn't lie. Keep sensing it, trusting it, letting it liberate you.”  ~ Judith Orloff

Prior to this experience I had always assumed that what I was feeling belonged to me and was mine to process. I now had a new awareness and realization. What if my past anxious feelings weren't actually mine? What if I was feeling other peoples energy. This awareness led to a real sense of freedom. I learned that more often than not what I was feeling wasn't actually mine. By becoming aware of my surroundings and what was happening around me, I was able to filter what was mine and what wasn't.

I later discovered some information about people who are referred to as "empathic" which further explained my way of being. You can find more info about that here http://www.drjudithorloff.com/Free-Articles/emotional-empath-EF.htm
