Part #4 of the Reclaim Your Wholeness Self Guided Program focuses on the topic of "Embracing Your Shadow". The information below is a sampling of this topic. As we move through our lives we have witnessed or interpreted experiences that we may label as unsafe or choose to not have in our lives. If we think of these experiences as rooms in a mansion, we are metaphorically closing the door to different ways of being. The more situations we encounter, the more rooms we close. Eventually, whole wings of our mansion become inaccessible. We may have a door called anger, or a door called sadness, shame, joy or even or a door called love. We end up limiting the broad range of ways we can show up in our everyday life and we limit the experiences we are able to digest. While some of these shadows can be black and white and easy to reveal, others can be more tricky to uncover. Simply stated, Shadow Work is about taking responsibility for the doors in our mansion and re-opening them. Some doors can be re-opened by you with some knowledge of shadow work, while others need to be opened with support. Ultimately, everything relegated to the shadows is an aspect of your essential self that is longing to be expressed in healthy ways, loved, and even respected. Until we do this work, these aspects tend to grow in intensity, often bursting out in unhealthy, destructive ways in our lives, then stuffed back into their closet. Reclaiming and integrating all of aspects of ourselves is vital to living a vibrant life of authenticity. |
