What is energy type? When teaching someone about their Human Design chart, one of the first areas we discuss is Energy Type. So let’s start by clarifying what the word energy can mean in relation to your design and type. Energy refers to your physical, mental, and emotional energy levels. It also refers to your aura and energetic field and how this energy is exchanged with the world/universe. Energy also refers to how those around you experience you / feel you. Perhaps you can best relate to this with the example of having a reaction to someone who enters a room and feel drawn to them or possibly feeling repelled by their energy and not wanting to engage. Why the heck does this matter? Learning about your type and design is quite literally about learning how to use your engine (energy) to engage the world. If you can imagine the difference between driving a Toyota Corolla and a Ferrari, you will need to learn how to drive the Ferrari and manage its power. In Human Design there are 5 different energy types, all different and unique to your individual design. Learning about your type helps you to use your energy in alignment with how you were uniquely designed. As a side note, 2 of the 5 energy types don’t create their own energy they amplify the energy of others. What are the 5 types? Manifestor Generator Manifesting Generator Projector Reflector Manifestor ~ This type represents approximately 9% of the population which makes them unique. One of the notable qualities of a Manifestor is that they have a big aura / energetic presence. You tend to notice this person as they enter a room. There is also a bit of a mysteriousness about this type and they can be hard to read. Manifestors are natural-born leaders and great initiators in our world. We need Manifestors to lead and inspire us. Manifestors use their voice to inspire action and change. Generator ~ This type represents approximately 37% of the population. Using the metaphor of the engine again, Generators are connected to a powerful source of energy driven by the sacral center. The catch is that the engine only kicks in when they are doing things that they love to do and light them up. If they are doing things that don’t light them up it can lead to burnout and frustration. When in alignment with their energy, Generators are easily able to go the distance and work endlessly on projects and tasks. Generators also energize others when they are living in alignment with their type. The struggle to fit in and embrace society's definition of what is “right” and “successful” is really just about energy.” - Karen Curry Manifesting Generator (MG) ~ This type (which happens to be my type) represents approximately 33% of the population. This type is a hybrid of the two types above with some unique qualities. MG’s tend to have multiple passions and interests. They can very quickly change course and jump from one unfinished project to the next. While society may not understand this, for MG’s this is a very beneficial way to engage the world. The best example of this would be not finishing books. (Yup…that is true for me I can think of at least 5 books that are sitting unfinished right now) MG’s are here to show the world that it is possible to break free from limitations. Similar to Generators they can have lots of energy when excited about something.
Projector ~ This type represents approximately 20% of the population. Classic Projectors (there are some variations) are unique because they have no motor centers (engine) which means they don’t generate energy from within. Instead, they amplify the energy of other types. The role of the Projector is to be the guide for the rest of us. Projectors are not here to work as the other types and they often only have the energy to work 2-4 hours each day. The rest of the time they will be best served by studying topics they love and translating that into their unique perspective. Projectors tend to have a very specific focus in life and share this with others and guide them with their unique world view which is usually rooted in personal experience and a unique perspective. Reflector ~ This type is the most unique and represents approximately 1% of the population. I like to think of them as the unicorns of Human Design types. What makes reflectors unique is that they have no motor centers defined (no engine) and of the 9 energy centers none of them are defined. This means they amplify the energy of others. It also means they are very much impacted by and sensitive to the energetic experience of others around them. This means it can be challenging for them to discern what belongs to others vs. what is theirs. That said Reflectors are also able to deeply sense others which can be a bit of a superpower. Reflectors generally need to spend time alone to reset and recharge. In closing, the information above is a brief summary of energy types and there is so much more information to share regarding your type. In future blog posts I will jump into those aspects which will include; conditioning, self / not-self theme, strategy and authority. If you would like to learn more about your specific type and chart you can book a reading with me on the sessions page.
