The definition of intuition that I use the most is; “The knowing of something, without prior knowledge or experience”. If I go to Wikipedia I find this definition; “Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without proof, evidence, or conscious reasoning, or without understanding how the knowledge was acquired”. One of my teachers added this tidbit; “Your intuition is always right, its your interpretation that may be off”. "Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way." ~ Florence Shovel Shinn I also like to refer to it as your inner voice or inner knowing or gut feeling. An interesting thing to note would be that the your intuition can also become hidden if the voice of your inner critic is quite loud or dominant. Your intuition is usually a gentle nudge or whisper which tries to get your attention and can easily be missed. I have many stories of how I came to know this thing called intuition but let me share one that I think is the best everyday example. Hopefully it stirs within you, your own experiences with intuition. I believe we are all intuitive and can access this deeper knowing of all things and experiences. A few years ago a friend who was going to be involved in a trial, let me know that I would likely be contacted by her lawyer, as I may be subpoenaed as a witness. Sure enough a few days later while at work I received a phone call. The number on the call display was a local number, which gave me some confidence that all was good and the caller said that they were calling in regards to the trial that my friend would be involved in. I was asked if I would answer some questions so they could determine whether what I would offer would benefit the trial. Almost immediately something felt off about the call. I couldn’t put my finger on it but my guard went up very quickly. The questions being asked didn’t really make sense and something about the tone and feeling of the call was off. I did however answer the questions as best I could and kept the answers very simple and low level without expanding. A couple of days later I received another phone call, the caller said that she was representing my friend and asked if I would be willing to answer some questions. In that moment I was quickly able to discern that my intuition regarding the previous call was correct. It was one of those moments of instant clarity. The original call was not my friends lawyer and was in fact opposing council. A feeling of dread quickly came over me. However, in the end nothing I shared had a negative impact on my friends case. Due to the feeling that something was not right I really didn’t reveal anything of any significance. After confirming I was in fact speaking to my friends lawyer, I was able to freely share and experienced a very different set of questions. Once again my intuition was right, even though I wasn’t really sure at the time. "I believe in intuitions and inspirations...I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am." - Albert Einstein I learned to trust and cultivate my intuition by first bringing awareness to the fact that my intuition was trying to tell me something. After noticing my intuition was at play I would observe the outcome of the situation. I have had some situations where the confirmation came months and months later and I was able to make the link to the original nudge of intuition. Eventually you will be able to discern when your intuition is speaking to you.
