Years ago in one of my coaching courses the leader made this statement; "Fulfillment Is A Radical Act". I think I have written about this before, and tonight I am really inspired to write about this topic again. My radical act began almost 10 yrs ago after an interesting series of intuitions, signs and just the right support. I found myself sitting in the lobby of a hotel wondering whether I had made a good decision. Had I signed up for another Amway type of get rich quick scheme? Been there done that. I went upstairs to the room where the course was being held and sat down in one of the chairs. I was "all in" and at the same time curious about what I had signed up for. About 15 minutes into the course I took a deep breath and I could feel my heart smiling. I had found my tribe, my people, my calling. For the first time in my life I was excited about something and that something was co-active life coaching. Nothing happens until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change" ~ Arthur Burt Fulfillment simply stated would be "that which fills your heart with joy" ~ a gentle clarity of mission or purpose tempered with your values. What fills my heart is likely different than what fills your heart. Now this is where I get really excited. The ways in which hearts can be filled with joy are limitless. Over the years I have witnessed clients create the most amazing circumstances in their lives and I am humbled by the variety of creativity that exists, I believe anything is possible. So why is fulfillment a radical act? I grew up in a culture that promoted a fairly linear path. Go to school get good grades and decide on a career or vocation. Further your education and create debt via student loans. Start your career, start a family, buy a house, have kids....... Before you know it this path is consuming all your time and energy and you are literally tied to it because of debt, loans, commitments etc. For some this path does bring joy and fulfillment and if that is true for you that is wonderful. For others this path becomes unbearable and it feels like there is no way out. To break through the perceived barriers and make different choices takes radical action. It was during my coaching courses that we explored a question. "What can't you be with?" My answer was my career. I made the decision to quit my career. I had two paying clients and I was ready to change the world. I look back now and I can't believe that I had made the decision. And I am so grateful I did. I needed to break free completely. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that path to everyone, however, I strongly suggest taking steps towards what you truly want. Which brings me to the part of this story that gets me really fired up. Most of the time when I coach clients in regards to passion and purpose, there is this moment when they say "well there is this thing....that I love to do....but never give it any time"! I've always wanted to..... I love to.......but I just haven't given it energy. Then they begin to talk about this hidden passion. Their eyes light up and their physicality changes and I witness the simplicity and excitement around the topic. I can immediately see how important this topic is to them and in some cases I know how much the world needs this thing that they want to share. The other thing that I notice is the desire to have everything perfect and in place so that there is time to give towards the thing that ignites passion. Once I get this done I will..... When I find the time to....... I will take action. Years will disappear as you try to prepare! You already know everything you need to know! It's a big part of why you came here to this earth! You just need to get out of the way and allow yourself to experience the joy. Not later. Now. And yes....it is a radical act. The answer to "how' is "yes". ~ Essence ~ channeled by Lynda Austin www.followjoy.com
