People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.“ ~ Joseph Campbell Imagine that your life is like a sailboat out at sea. No matter which direction you look, all you see is water. You've lost a sense of direction and are unsure where you are. Sure it's beautiful out at sea, you love the sense of freedom and the power of the ocean. Yet something is missing, you've lost your will to travel. You just can't find the strength to put up your sails and even if you did, you don't know where you are headed.
As I was growing up I was given a path that looked something like this. Go to school, get a job / career, find a relationship, buy a house with a white picket fence, have children and live happily ever after. No matter how hard I tried to make it work, that story / path still left me feeling empty and longing for something different. I couldn't shake the feeling. It wasn't until 2006 at 37 years of age that I discovered my passion and my calling. I found that thing that made me feel alive and like time did not matter. I have spent the last 9 years experiencing, clarifying and reflecting on my purpose / mission statement. During the last year my purpose statement has solidified and become very clear. Each day as I make decisions or something doesn't feel right I connect to see if it is alignment with my purpose. Your purpose is like your navigational charts. Once you find your charts again and realize that you are actually in the wrong ocean you can once again throw up your sails and head in "your" direction. Without a sense of direction you are simply floating around at sea. Floating around at sea is a gift that allows you to gain self awareness. 5 questions about purpose: 1) What must you have? 2) What brings you joy? 3) What is that "thing" that you stopped doing because life got busy? 4) What were you born to do / be on this earth? 5) What is the message that you want to share with the world? My purpose / mission: I am a fierce loving flame that supports you and challenges you to illuminate your path. Related Articles: 5 ways to not press snooze.... A story about comfort....
