I have recently had several conversations with folks who are really not enjoying aspects of their lives. Most of the time it revolves around lack of joy in the workplace and not being treated fairly. On a deeper level, there is a gentle voice with a vision for something different, the voice of your soul calling you towards a different life. The lack of joy in the workplace is merely the symptom of a spiritual calling. "Pay attention to the things you are naturally drawn to. They are often connected to your path, passion and purpose in life. Have the courage to follow them." ~ Ruben Chavez When we press pause and observe what is happening in our lives and the different aspects, it can become apparent how interconnected the different parts of life are. Lack of joy at work, impacts our health and our relationships just to name a couple. So what is the solution? In 2011 I walked into work and was overcome with a feeling of anxiety and doom. I knew without a doubt, that I couldn’t do it anymore. I could no longer continue down the path my career was taking me. It was a difficult awareness, because so much stability came from this career. What was also difficult, was the fact that I felt I was going against all the social values of career and hard work and more. Even though I knew in my heart that I was making a good decision for myself, there was shame and anxiety attached to choosing a different path. Fast forward to now and I have a job that I love that perfectly compliments my coaching practice. 3 Ways to Reclaim Your Life Path Take Inventory ~ Press pause and take a good long look at all of the aspects of your life. Look at where you feel fulfilled and where you do not. Look at what leaves you tired and empty and what brings you joy. Look at what is taking your time vs. creating a sense of timelessness. Notice what you want to do but can’t find the time to do. Do your best not to step into action just yet. Sit with whatever comes into your awareness for a while. Let your awareness simmer. Clarify Your Values & Purpose ~ Stated in the simplest form. Your values are what you must have in your life and your purpose is a clear sense of direction. Taking the time to connect with both of these can provide much clarity on how you can move forward and create actions and choice that are in integrity with our inner truth on all levels. What is you stand for? What is it that you would fight for? What brings you joy? Embedded in these and other questions you can find hints of values and your purpose. Make Some Small Choices ~ Create some small action steps. Stepping into action can further deepen our understanding and help us clarify where we may be on the wrong path. Small, because we are leading busy lives. I appreciate the little steps I can take that bring me into alignment with myself and are easy to implement. As an example I have a value called “Raging River” which when honoured connects me to; magic, transformation, power, flow and nature. Making an effort to even spend 5 minutes by the river is so healing and reconnects me to my path. Small choices can hold a big benefit. "Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take the step." ~ Unknown Taking the time to explore these 3 areas may not immediately get you where you want to be. However, most of the answers that have been most helpful in my life have come from a continuous exploration of what is working, what is not working and awareness of what is. Taking action leads to awareness and the ability to make different choices.
